    A

    AEO

Answer Engine Optimization. The practice of optimizing content to be cited by AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Claude. AEO focuses on structuring information so AI systems can easily parse, understand, and reference it when generating answers.

    AI Overviews

Google's AI-generated answer summaries shown above traditional search results. AI Overviews synthesize information from multiple web sources into a single answer block, reducing the need for users to click through to individual websites.

    AI Visibility Score

An EZY.ai metric measuring how discoverable a website is to AI assistants. The score evaluates factors like structured data quality, llms.txt presence, robots.txt configuration, content structure, and schema markup to determine how well AI systems can access and cite your content.

    Answer Engine

An AI system that provides direct answers to user queries rather than a list of links. Examples include ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Perplexity, and Claude. Answer engines use large language models to synthesize information and deliver conversational responses.

    B
    C

    Citation

When an AI assistant references your website as a source in its response. Citations are the currency of AEO — they drive traffic, build authority, and signal to AI systems that your content is trustworthy and relevant.

    ClaudeBot

Anthropic's web crawler that indexes content for Claude AI. ClaudeBot visits websites to gather training and retrieval data, and can be managed through robots.txt directives. Allowing ClaudeBot access is essential for visibility in Claude's responses.

    E

    Entity Linking

The process of connecting content to known entities in knowledge graphs. Entity linking helps AI systems disambiguate references and understand the specific people, places, organizations, and concepts mentioned in your content.

    F

    facts.jsonld

A machine-readable factual layer that AI assistants can parse directly. This JSON-LD file provides structured factual claims about your business — founding date, services, locations, leadership — in a format optimized for AI retrieval and citation.

    G

    GEO

Generative Engine Optimization. A synonym for AEO that emphasizes the generative AI aspect of modern search. GEO focuses on ensuring your content is selected and cited by AI-powered search engines and assistants.

    GPTBot

OpenAI's web crawler that indexes content for ChatGPT. GPTBot is the primary crawler used to build ChatGPT's knowledge base. Managing GPTBot access through robots.txt directly affects whether your content appears in ChatGPT responses.

    K

    Knowledge Graph

A structured database of entities and their relationships used by AI systems to understand the world. Knowledge graphs connect facts about people, organizations, products, and concepts, enabling AI to provide accurate, contextual answers.

    L

    llms.txt

A standardized file placed at the root of a website that provides AI models with structured information about the site's content, purpose, and key pages. Think of it as robots.txt for AI — it tells language models what your site is about and where to find important content.

    LLM

Large Language Model. An AI system trained on vast amounts of text data to understand and generate human-like language. Examples include GPT (OpenAI), Claude (Anthropic), and Gemini (Google). LLMs power the answer engines that AEO optimizes for.

    M

    Meta Description

An HTML tag that provides a brief summary of a page's content. While traditionally used for search engine result snippets, meta descriptions also help AI systems quickly understand what a page is about before deciding whether to cite it.

    O

    OAI-SearchBot

OpenAI's search-specific crawler used for ChatGPT's web search feature. Unlike GPTBot which indexes for training, OAI-SearchBot fetches real-time results when users trigger web search within ChatGPT conversations.

    P

    PerplexityBot

Perplexity AI's web crawler that indexes content for its answer engine. PerplexityBot actively crawls the web to provide up-to-date citations in Perplexity's responses, making it one of the most citation-heavy AI assistants.

    Prompt Simulation

An EZY.ai feature that generates realistic AI prompts relevant to your brand and produces ideal answers. Prompt simulation helps you understand how AI assistants would ideally respond about your business, revealing gaps between current and optimal visibility.

    R

    RAG

Retrieval Augmented Generation. The technique by which LLMs retrieve external sources in real-time to ground their responses in factual, up-to-date information. RAG is the mechanism behind AI citations — when an AI cites your website, it used RAG to find and reference your content.

    robots.txt

A text file at the root of a website that controls which web crawlers can access which pages. In AEO, robots.txt is critical for managing access by AI crawlers like GPTBot, ClaudeBot, and ClaudeBot. Blocking these bots means your content won't appear in AI responses.

    S

    Schema.org

A collaborative vocabulary for structured data markup understood by search engines and AI systems. Schema.org provides standardized types like Organization, Product, FAQ, and Article that help AI parse your content's meaning, relationships, and context.

    Share of Voice

The percentage of AI-generated answers that mention your brand compared to competitors for a given set of queries. Share of Voice in AEO measures your brand's presence across AI assistants, helping you benchmark visibility against competitors.

    Sitemap

An XML file that lists all the pages on your website for crawlers to discover. Sitemaps help AI crawlers efficiently find and index your content, ensuring no important pages are missed during the crawling process.

    Structured Data

Machine-readable annotations added to web pages using formats like JSON-LD or Microdata. Structured data tells AI systems exactly what your content means — whether a number is a price, a date, or a rating — making it easier for AI to extract and cite accurate information.

    T

    Topic Cluster

A content strategy that groups related articles around a central pillar page. Topic clusters signal topical authority to AI systems by demonstrating comprehensive coverage of a subject, increasing the likelihood of being cited as an authoritative source.
